Children's Wish Golf Day - 3rd June 2010

We had a fabulous day at the Canford Magna Golf Club for our annual golf competition.  We had 22 teams who took part and they were all blessed with beautiful sunny weather.  Thank you so much to all the teams who took part.  We raised around £4000, which is fantastic!

We hope to see you again next year for another successful golf day on 8th June 2011.

Midnight Wish Walk  - 7th May 2010

Our 3rd Midnight Wish Walk on Friday 7th May saw almost 200 ladies pound the prom from Bournemouth to Southbourne at midnight.  A fantastic evening with everyone getting into the spirit of the event wearing their feather boa's and flashing bunny ears with pride.  Many of  the ladies arrived in fancy dress, some ready for their bed but others ready to party !  Also joining in were the guys and girls from Baysup Paddleboarders who covered the distance fully illuminated in the sea.

Many many thanks to all who took part and made the evening such a great success and who's efforts will ensure that we continue to grant the Wishes of local children.

Our thanks go to our sponsors who make the evening possible. We were entertained by Samba Panashe at the start and by the juggling society of Bournemouth University at the Boscombe Pier. The warm up by was by the girls and boys of Virgin Active and the refreshment was courtesy of Nutrichef, Aruba and Bookers. Our thanks also the St John Ambulance without whom we would not be able to host the event.

London Marathon - Sunday 25th April 2010

A huge thank you to the team in London this year.  Everyone finished, some with just a few injuries but nothing major and all euphoric about finishing and raising those all important funds. We think you are all brilliant!

Morris Man - Dave Tindall makes it into the Guardian Newspaper for his 14th Marathon.  He is hoping to run for us again next year.

Neil Petrie at the end in Horseguards finding Colin Jackson for a celebrity shot.

We bumped into our 1000th wish child Matt Arding who ran with his dad Paul.  Matt is now 21 but at 17 he wished to go, again with his dad, to Germany to watch England play.  They both ran the Marathon for the 2nd time to raise funds for Wessex Cancer Trust who Matt now works with.  We are trying to get them to run for us at the Great South and think we might just have talked them into it...

David Slade carries a torch for Round Table Children's Wish!

We thought you all might like to see this photo of one of our great supporters David Slade who carried the Olympic Torch in Toronto at the Winter Olympics.  We were delighted to learn that David dedicated his efforts to Round Table Children's Wish and are proud to be associated with the event.

Avonbourne School - Cheque Presentation

We were delighted to have been chosen by the Head Girls Team at Avonbourne School for the 2009/10 academic year as their Charity. At their Easter Assembly they presented us with a cheque for £1454.14 from all their fundraising events that have been held throughout the year so far.

It has been a pleasure to work with the Team during their year and we are thrilled at their fantastic achievement.  We send our heartfelt thanks to all who were involved.

Rome Marathon - 21st March 2010

We had our first Round Table Children's Wish Team fly out to Rome to take part in the Rome Marathon on Sunday 21st March 2010. We were overjoyed to be there supporting our runners who had chosen to take part in this to raise money for RTCW.

Please visit our Facebook page as we have a fantastic video from one of our supporters who was out in Rome running the marathon for us.  Please visit http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Bournemouth-United-Kingdom/Round-Table-Childrens-Wish/61848394856?ref=ts

There were lots of hills and plenty of cobble stones, which I am sure was very exhausting, but it was a beautiful place to explore and a fantastic setting to be running through. They did all this to make many more wishes come true for children with life-threatening illnesses.

We want to say a huge and heartfelt thank you from everyone here at the charity for everything you did and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

We hope to see you again next year!!

Jon Snelling Returns from his Kilimanjaro Trek - March 2010

In his own words:

"Kili was an amazing experience – certainly the most physically, mentally and emotionally challenging thing I’ve ever taken on.   Things were made a bit tougher as we had heavy rain every day/night, and a bad snow blizzard on our summit night which brought the temperature down to -30C!!   Unfortunately I suffered from bad Altitude Sickness at just over 5,000 metres which meant I lost most coordination and the ability to walk, talk etc (which was an “interesting” experience.. ) so the trip doctor wouldn’t allow me to continue – this meant then having a 4 hour trek back down to our camp at 3 in the morning in the middle of a blizzard feeling cold, tired and pretty disappointed at not having quite made it;  All part of the challenge!!

Would I do it again knowing what I now do?  Unquestionably yes, although perhaps at a different time of year when it wasn’t approaching the rainy season!

I managed to raise just over £3.5k – hopefully this will help towards making wishes come true for the children that you do such fantastic work with."

Heels to Help Heal - The Oceanarium, Bournemouth - 18th November 2009

We had a very successful evening down at the Oceanarium.  Lot's of new and "once worn" shoes were sold to raise money for the charity as well as having a celebrity signed shoe auction with Portsmouth footballer Hermann Hreidarsson as our auctioneer.

We raised just under £7,000.
